Results: The average central retinal thickness (CRT) measured by OCT in the DM1 patient
group was 299.6 μm (±34.2 μm), while in the control group it was 261.4 μm (±17.2 μm), which
is a statistically significant difference (p<0.01). ERM was found in 24 eyes of 13 patients with
DM1 (52%), compared to 3.3% in the control group (1 eye of 1 person). Lamellar macular hole
occured in 4 eyes of 2 patients, pigment epithelium abnormality in 14 eyes of 11 patients in
DM1 group. These changes were not found in the control group. Cataract was detected in 32
eyes of 18 patients, and 5 eyes of 3 patients had already been operated, so a total of 37 eyes
(74%) of 21 patients (84%) was affected by early cataract. In the control group only 4 eyes of
2 patients had some lens opacity.

Conclusion: The macular thickness of DM1 patients measured by OCT was significantly higher
than those in the control group. Epiretinal membrane, lamellar macular hole and pigment
epithelium abnormality occurred more frequently in the DM1 group compared to the control
group. Our results confirm the previously reported characteristics of DM1, with a more detailed,
imaging based analysis of retinal lesions.
