Proposal: Since May 2022, at Semmelweis University CRAO patients diagnosed within 4.5
hours are given thrombolysis therapy based on central nervous system stroke guidelines. In
this presentation we report our experience with this multidisciplinar cooperation.

Method: In our presentation we review CRAO patients data treated conservatively at the
Department of Ophthalmology between 2012 and 2022 regarding their visual acuity,
neurological and cardiovascular findings. Next, we report patients data collected since the start
of the thrombolyis project with special focus on the benefits of a uniform workup protocol.

Results, Conclusion: Due to low patient number the effectiveness of thrombolysis therapy in
CRAO is still a question under debate. However, uniform stroke guideline-based investigation
helps identifying embolic sources thus, avoiding further, potentially more serious
thromboembolic events.
