rectus muscles, depending on the preoperative angle. Three-muscle surgery was performed
in 2 patients and four-muscle surgery in 1 patient.
Results: Early postoperative near and distant deviation angles were both between 10PD
exotropia and 1PD esotropia. Postoperatively, all patients had resolved suppression and 0.8'-
5' stereo vision was observed.
Conclusions: Despite the extremely large preoperative angles and the almost continuous,
sometimes decades-long unilateral suppression, a well-planned, extensive surgical
intervention involving at least 3 muscles achieved good cosmetic results and stable
binocularity at distance.
